Short Black Penshurst

Finding local gems is something truly special and this local café is one of the best around. It’s my go to whenever I’m in need of a big feed with friendly service.

This place serves delicious brunch classics such as eggs benedict, sautéed mushrooms, baked eggs and French toast. But a bonus point about this place is that it has a specials board that changes all the time. Some of the best dishes I’ve had was from the specials board such as the breakfast burger 2.0 (filled with haloumi, scrambled eggs, feta and a pesto and aioli sauce). It was monstrous and delicious.

No matter how hungry I am whenever I go to Short Black, I always leave with a satisfied and way too full belly. The serving sizes are plentiful and packed with plenty of flavour. Their herbed scrambled eggs have at least 3 eggs in them served with bacon, haloumi and a roasted tomato. Served with toasted sourdough, it’s the perfect start to the day.

Another delicious item is their greek baked eggs. It contains roast lamb, roast potato, Spanish onions, capsicum and feta and comes with a side of pita bread for dipping. Outstanding and very filling.
Not only do they have a great breakfast selection but their lunch menu items are just as delicious and just as big.

One of their many breakfast specials
A go to item for when I’ve had slightly too many the night before is their club sandwich. Such a simple sandwich made of grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a generous dollop of aioli. The sandwich is cut into quarters and paired with a pile of shoestring fries. Simple yet perfect.

The great thing about this place is that there’s hardly ever a long queue. Most I’ve had to wait was possibly 10 minutes, which is nothing compared to other mediocre cafes with wait time of up to an hour.

Short Black is definitely value for money and their coffees are great too! If you ever find yourself in the area and in need of a huge feed or even just an afternoon tea, Short Black’s got you covered.
Eggs Benedict
What Would Lobi Eat? Something savoury from their specials board with a latte.

USA Trip 2017 - New York City

This was my third visit to this amazing city and once again delivered something new to the table in terms of the delicious variety of food available. When one thinks of New York, the first thing that comes to mind is pizza! This is a city that definitely has no shortage of pizza restaurants and Rubirosa in my opinion is one of the best out there. Located in Nolita, this small pizza restaurant delivers thin, crispy pizzas with a variety of topping choices. We ended up choosing a sampler of bruschetta for starters and a large pizza (half classic half Rubirosa supreme). The sampler bruschetta was a trio of different types of bruschetta they had on offer. Each one packed with flavour but not over doing it at all. A mixture of your typical bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil and garlic, a pesto bruschetta and a creamy cheese and honey bruschetta. Sampler bruschetta Onto the main course, the pizza! A beautiful circle of dough half covered in bright red sau...

Hawker - Sydney CBD

As you can tell I love my Malaysian food and Hawker does not disappoint. I’ve been to this place many times before but I recently won their monthly Instagram competition and was invited to a dinner for 2 for free! I immediately took up the offer and ate until my stomach reached full capacity. It’s a casual Malaysian restaurant located in the Sydney CBD. I often come here for lunch and because it is so spacious inside, there usually isn’t a long line. They seat you quickly and the menu, although not large, has quite a variety to choose from. Po Piah For starters we ordered the Po Piah, which is kind of like a Vietnamese rice paper roll filled with an assortment of fillings including Chinese sausage, shredded omelette, crispy shallots and chilli paste. It’s a typical Malaysian starter which is not found everywhere in Sydney and it has a light consistency to it so it doesn’t spoil your appetite. Oyster Omelette We also ordered the oyster omelette also known as Or Chien....

Sekka Dining

New comer in the ramen scene is Sekka Dining which has recently opened in St Leonards.  Small but cozy, this ramen joint which is in the works to expanding their dining options, is already a smash hit. They will be bringing more izakaya options such as yakitori and kushiyaki but in the mean time you can enjoy delicious starters and steaming hot bowls of ramen.  In terms of drinks they serve Asahi on tap and Japanese cocktails such as whisky highballs, gin and tonic and a variety of hot and cold sake.  I went during their second week of soft opening on a weekday and didn't have to wait long at all to be seated. There is bar seating as well as 3 booth options which can fit 5-6 people as well as a few tables spread throughout.  For entree we ordered the blue fin tuna made with house soy, organic egg yolk, shiso and olive oil. For ramen I chose the Tonkotsu Shoyu whilst my partner ordered the Shoyu ramen.  The entree of bluefin tuna was amazing! Presentation of the ...
