Gojima - The Star

Gojima is a place that does burgers but with a twist. Instead of using the normal bread bun, they use a fried rice cake instead. Add to this special sauce and a Japanese twist, and you’ve got yourself a Gojima burger.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening around 6pm and we were able to beat the crowd. The place has seats inside and a few outside, but you can always get take away and eat it in the nearby food court.

We decided to get two burgers, 2 pieces of fried chicken, a green tea “frozen custard” shake and an Asahi black beer. Yes they have Asahi black! Probably the best beer in the world. Anyways back to the food.

Gojima!
After much deliberation, we ordered the stack and the chicken burger. The stack was the normal cheeseburger plus a crispy katsu mushroom in it. It comes with the usual good stuff a burger should have such as tomatoes, onions, pickles, lettuce and special sauce. The chicken was a crispy chicken fillet, cheese, tomatoes, onions, pickles, lettuce and Gojima Miso sauce.

The stack was delicious. I’m glad I ordered the stack and not just the regular cheeseburger as the katsu mushroom added a layer of flavour and texture to it which worked well with all the ingredients. The rice bun was crispy as they somehow fry it to hold the rice together. It’s all nicely wrapped up in a sheet of seaweed and quite easy to hold. The flavours worked well and the special sauce combined perfectly with the meat and mushroom.

The chicken burger is pretty much the same thing with a crispy chicken fillet instead of the beef patty/mushroom. However the Gojima Miso sauce was quite different to the special sauce and added a bit of tang to it all. Overall both were great burgers but I preferred the stack as it was a bit more juicy and filling than the chicken.

A tip would be to eat the burger in one sitting and try not to put it down. I found that once you start eating your way through it, it begins to fall apart if placed down to say grab a drink of cold Asahi black.

The fried chicken was a little bit disappointing. Firstly due to the price. It was $8.90 for 2 pieces and the pieces we received were a drumstick and a chicken wing. Although tasty, I felt the price didn’t justify the size of the chicken we got. Perhaps if we received a thigh or breast piece along with a drumstick or chicken wing it may have saved the day, but on this day I wasn’t so lucky.

The green tea frozen custard was a treat! Icy cold and thicker than your average thick shake, it had a strong taste of matcha in it. They offer it as a drink or as a scoop which is good for dessert lovers. The longer we left it to melt though the sweetness of the drink started to come through. Some people may prefer it this way but I preferred it as it started out as. I guess the tip there is to get through it fast!

Overall I will be going back to try more of their juicy burgers! Especially the miso salmon burger. It looks like a sushi burger! Delicious!

What Would Lobi Eat? The stack and an Asahi black beer to wash it down.

USA Trip 2017 - New York City

This was my third visit to this amazing city and once again delivered something new to the table in terms of the delicious variety of food available. When one thinks of New York, the first thing that comes to mind is pizza! This is a city that definitely has no shortage of pizza restaurants and Rubirosa in my opinion is one of the best out there. Located in Nolita, this small pizza restaurant delivers thin, crispy pizzas with a variety of topping choices. We ended up choosing a sampler of bruschetta for starters and a large pizza (half classic half Rubirosa supreme). The sampler bruschetta was a trio of different types of bruschetta they had on offer. Each one packed with flavour but not over doing it at all. A mixture of your typical bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil and garlic, a pesto bruschetta and a creamy cheese and honey bruschetta. Sampler bruschetta Onto the main course, the pizza! A beautiful circle of dough half covered in bright red sau

Hawker - Sydney CBD

As you can tell I love my Malaysian food and Hawker does not disappoint. I’ve been to this place many times before but I recently won their monthly Instagram competition and was invited to a dinner for 2 for free! I immediately took up the offer and ate until my stomach reached full capacity. It’s a casual Malaysian restaurant located in the Sydney CBD. I often come here for lunch and because it is so spacious inside, there usually isn’t a long line. They seat you quickly and the menu, although not large, has quite a variety to choose from. Po Piah For starters we ordered the Po Piah, which is kind of like a Vietnamese rice paper roll filled with an assortment of fillings including Chinese sausage, shredded omelette, crispy shallots and chilli paste. It’s a typical Malaysian starter which is not found everywhere in Sydney and it has a light consistency to it so it doesn’t spoil your appetite. Oyster Omelette We also ordered the oyster omelette also known as Or Chien.

USA Trip 2017 - Orlando

Next up Orlando! Home to the best theme parks in the world! This review will be quite a short one, mainly about the food I ate in Universal Studios. But boy was it great food! Normally when you think of theme park food you think of boring burgers and fried food covered with some sauce but Universal Studios offers a whole lot more than that. There are so many restaurants and food outlets at Universal Studios and that’s not even in the actual theme park. A lot restaurants can be accessed on the outside which is called Universal City Walk which is free to walk around and explore. One place which I was really keen to visit was The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen. As soon as you enter Universal City Walk you won’t be able to miss Toothsome as it is one of the biggest structures in the area and reminded me of a giant chocolate factory. The crazy shop at Toothsome It has a cool steam punk theme where the waitresses and waiters dress up in old time clo
