Holidaying - Europe

I’ve had a bit of a break from blogging due to being overseas for holidays. This post will be about all the great food I ate whilst travelling. Europe is an amazing place to visit especially if you’re a foodie! So many unique cuisines and each city specialising in their own one. For this blog I’ve decided to choose one meal from each city that really stood out. First stop was Berlin, the land of meat and beer! Berlin is going through what many cities are going through which is a burger craze however the one meal that stood out was the kebab. This is no ordinary kebab though with people waiting up to two hours for this street food! It’s from a small kebab cart on the street called Mustafa’s Gemuse Kebap. Once you see the kebab in its full glory you just know it’s not your typical kebab you would devour after a night of heavy drinking. It’s packed to the brim full of extras such as feta, potatoes, grilled vegetables, assorted salad, grilled meat from a spit and covered with a sauce w

Hawker - Sydney CBD

As you can tell I love my Malaysian food and Hawker does not disappoint. I’ve been to this place many times before but I recently won their monthly Instagram competition and was invited to a dinner for 2 for free! I immediately took up the offer and ate until my stomach reached full capacity. It’s a casual Malaysian restaurant located in the Sydney CBD. I often come here for lunch and because it is so spacious inside, there usually isn’t a long line. They seat you quickly and the menu, although not large, has quite a variety to choose from. Po Piah For starters we ordered the Po Piah, which is kind of like a Vietnamese rice paper roll filled with an assortment of fillings including Chinese sausage, shredded omelette, crispy shallots and chilli paste. It’s a typical Malaysian starter which is not found everywhere in Sydney and it has a light consistency to it so it doesn’t spoil your appetite. Oyster Omelette We also ordered the oyster omelette also known as Or Chien.

Ippudo – Sydney Westfield

I’ve been a fan of this ramen restaurant ever since I first devoured it back on a trip to New York. It’s been in Sydney for a couple years now and it’s still one of my favourite ramen places in town. Ask anyone and they’ll give you their opinion on the best ramen in Sydney. From Ryos to Gumshara, Menya to Ikkyu. I however cannot choose the best so I will write about my favourites; Ippudo being one of them. I like Ippudo not only because of their ramen, but because of the atmosphere. It’s casual restaurant and constantly filled during lunch and dinner hours. On this occasion, I went with my family to celebrate my dad’s birthday so we ended up ordering a bunch of sides as well as their delicious ramen. Pork, chicken karaage and prawn katsu buns There’s a massive amount of side dishes you can order including fried chicken, salads and their famous buns. You can choose the filling you want inside the bun from chicken karaage, pork and shrimp katsu. Tonight we went with

Butter – Surry Hills

When I heard there was a place that had fried chicken, an awesome selection of kicks at the front and a wide selection of drinks to indulge in, I knew I had to check it out. This is the place that is consta ntly filled with patrons from open til close Monday to Saturday. I thought I’d try and beat the crowd and rock up a little earlier just before 6pm on a Wednesday, however when we arrived the place was in full swing. Luckily there was one table towards the back near the kitchen but I wasn’t complaining as the smell of juicy fried chicken filled the air. The waitress was extremely friendly and explained what ‘Butter’ was all about. The short story – Fried Chicken! Bit of eye candy art Ok the slightly longer version is that the chicken is sold in packs of 3 pieces and 13 pieces. The 3 pack comes with a thigh piece, 2 tenders and side of coleslaw. The 13 pack comes with a generous serving of 4 thigh pieces, 9 tenders, 2 sides of pickles, 2 coleslaws and 3 sauces. A monster of

Ho Jiak – Strathfield

I first heard about this place on where else but Instagram. Since I am Malaysian by heritage I’m always keen to try out any restaurant/eatery which has any Malaysian sounding dishes in their menu. Ho Jiak meaning ‘delicious’ in hokkien (dialect spoken in Malaysia), I thought I must try this place out to put their name to the test.  It’s a small shop in the food court area of Strathfield plaza with limited seating inside. However we get there early and manage to grab a table inside. There’s a large variety of Malaysian dishes and I want to try them all! Unfortunately my stomach space cannot handle all that goodness so I end up choosing the ‘Special Sauce Pork Rib’ with rice, ‘Penang Fried Koay Teow’ and ‘Roti Kosong’ which is roti with a side of curry sauce. I’m a sucker for Fried Koay Teow, aka Char Koay Teow and this has got to be one of the better ones I’ve had in Sydney. There’s a little bit of a charred taste from the wok which is a good thing and reminds me of authentic
