Sekka Dining

New comer in the ramen scene is Sekka Dining which has recently opened in St Leonards.  Small but cozy, this ramen joint which is in the works to expanding their dining options, is already a smash hit. They will be bringing more izakaya options such as yakitori and kushiyaki but in the mean time you can enjoy delicious starters and steaming hot bowls of ramen.  In terms of drinks they serve Asahi on tap and Japanese cocktails such as whisky highballs, gin and tonic and a variety of hot and cold sake.  I went during their second week of soft opening on a weekday and didn't have to wait long at all to be seated. There is bar seating as well as 3 booth options which can fit 5-6 people as well as a few tables spread throughout.  For entree we ordered the blue fin tuna made with house soy, organic egg yolk, shiso and olive oil. For ramen I chose the Tonkotsu Shoyu whilst my partner ordered the Shoyu ramen.  The entree of bluefin tuna was amazing! Presentation of the dish was one similar

Motto Motto - Macquarie Centre

Motto Motto! Or more more! in Japanese is exactly what you'll say after eating at this casual fast-dining Japanese diner.  I discovered this place whilst walking around Macquarie Centre and it's such a hidden gem. On the outside it looks like a mysterious entrance to an old school arcade but once you line up and take a peak at the menu you realise it has so much more to offer.  There's quite a bit of choice on offer from ramen to karaage rice bowls to poke bowls! I ended up choosing the black garlic ramen and my partner went with the chirashi bowl. We got a side of pork belly and corn croquette balls and we got sucked into adding the matcha soft serve at the end because... matcha soft serve! Can't ever say no to that! The side of croquette balls came quite quickly and they were fresh and piping hot. Crunchy on the outside with a creamy mix of shredded pork belly and corn on the inside. Delicious starter! Pork belly and corn croquettes My ramen I admit didn&

What Would Lobi Eat: 2020 Edition

Hello all, it's been a very long time since my last blog post and I do apologise. I've neglected blogging quite a bit and hope to restart it midway through 2020 which has been a rollercoaster of a year so far. My last post was March of 2019 and so much has happened since then in both my personal life and the world in general.  Fast forward to July 2020 and the world has never been the same like it once was. Economies have taken a downturn and international travel has basically ceased. All this is of course due to the influenza virus Covid19 which started making the rounds in the news around December 2019. In Sydney, 23rd March 2020 saw the closure of all restaurants, pubs and food businesses which were only able to operate on a takeaway only basis. This was quite difficult and saw many businesses sadly shut their doors permanently. Luckily for many, they were still able to remain open even with a takeaway only business model and only very recently, have opened back up t

Top Eats of Tasmania

On a recent trip to Tasmania I got to sample some of the best food the place had to offer. I can hands down say it was one of my favourite places to go for food and I could not fault any meal I had there. Even a simple pub dinner in the small town of Swansea served an amazing chicken schnitzel with chips, salad and a deliciously thick gravy. I want to keep this short and simple so i'll only list the top places I enjoyed the most. Stillwater Launceston has very few fine dining establishments since it's a quiet, relaxing town but you can still find places such as Stillwater. Sister restaurant to established steak restaurant; Black Cow Bistro, Stillwater serves modern Australian cuisine with fresh, quality Tasmanian ingredients. Entree of fresh oysters For starters we had oysters, hiramasa kingfish sashimi and grilled Tasmanian octopus. The oysters were very fresh and tasty with the saltiness from the sea still there. The kingfish was cut beautifully and had burnt

Top Sydney Eats

In no particular order I list the top places I love to eat at in Sydney. Hojiak One of my favourites to go all the time not only because I love Malaysian food, but the char kway teow is one of the most authentic I've ever tasted in Sydney. The 'wok hei' is perfect and all ingredients are fried together perfectly with a kick of chilli mixed in. Other standout dishes I would recommend are the lor bak for entree, Hainan chicken rice and their KL hokkien mee (which is currently a special but may be a permanent item). Come for the char kway teow, stay for the dessert cendol. Kogi A fairly new Korean bbq restaurant on top of Market City in Haymarket. It's part of the 1909 Precinct which consists of a number of restaurants such as Yayoi, Beijing Impressions, Dolar hotpot, Mr Mengs spicy noodles and a sushi train. It's a great place for Korean bbq which uses hot coals to cook their meat and not a gas flame giving the meat a bit of a smokier, charred taste. A

Short Black Penshurst

Finding local gems is something truly special and this local café is one of the best around. It’s my go to whenever I’m in need of a big feed with friendly service. This place serves delicious brunch classics such as eggs benedict, sautéed mushrooms, baked eggs and French toast. But a bonus point about this place is that it has a specials board that changes all the time. Some of the best dishes I’ve had was from the specials board such as the breakfast burger 2.0 (filled with haloumi, scrambled eggs, feta and a pesto and aioli sauce). It was monstrous and delicious. Breakfast burger 2.0 No matter ho w hungry I am whenever I go to Short Black, I always leave with a satisfied and way too full belly. The serving sizes are plentiful and packed with plenty of flavour. Their herbed scrambled eggs have at least 3 eggs in them served with bacon, haloumi and a roasted tomato. Served with toasted sourdough, it’s the perfect start to the day. Herb scrambled eggs Another deli

USA Trip 2017 - New York City

This was my third visit to this amazing city and once again delivered something new to the table in terms of the delicious variety of food available. When one thinks of New York, the first thing that comes to mind is pizza! This is a city that definitely has no shortage of pizza restaurants and Rubirosa in my opinion is one of the best out there. Located in Nolita, this small pizza restaurant delivers thin, crispy pizzas with a variety of topping choices. We ended up choosing a sampler of bruschetta for starters and a large pizza (half classic half Rubirosa supreme). The sampler bruschetta was a trio of different types of bruschetta they had on offer. Each one packed with flavour but not over doing it at all. A mixture of your typical bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil and garlic, a pesto bruschetta and a creamy cheese and honey bruschetta. Sampler bruschetta Onto the main course, the pizza! A beautiful circle of dough half covered in bright red sau
